The Working Group and the compact are ongoing and the Minister will continue to have various engagements with the various stakeholders in order to ensure alignment in messages and commitment to alleviating unemployment by creating jobs in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector as per the vision 2020 statement.
- The former Minister of Communications, Mr Roy Padayachie, held the first round table at DeLoitte’s offices on 31 March 2011 to form partnerships with the private sector in tackling job creation issues.
- The second round table was held by the former Deputy Minister of Communications, Obed Bapela, at the PwC offices on 19 August 2011 to engage SMMEs in the ICT industry.
- The former Minister of Communications, Mr Roy Padayachie, held a high level meeting with the Top 6 ICT companies in July 2011 to form a Working Group in ICT and to sign a compact in committing to job creation in South Africa through ICTs.
- The Minister of Communications, Ms Dina Pule, held a meeting with the existing Working Group on 8 December 2011 to strengthen relationships and to discuss job creation issues in the ICT sector.
