The World Radiocommunication Conferences are normally convened every three to four years. A World Radiocommunication Conference may partially or, in exceptional cases, completely, revise the Radio Regulations and may deal with any question of a worldwide character within its competence and related to its agenda.
The previous World Radiocommunication Conference took place in 2007, Geneva, Switzerland. The next World Radiocommunication Conference is tentatively scheduled to take place in 2011.
South Africa has commenced national preparations towards World Radiocommunication Conference, 2011.
For South Africa to make a meaningful contribution to World Radiocommunication Conference, 2011 it is imperative to conduct thorough national preparations as a country. The preparations will aid in having an in-depth understanding of each agenda item to be addressed at the Conference. Preparations will further assist in drafting and submitting South African positions to the Conference which are inclusive in nature and cover the interests of all affected stakeholders. Hence, the Department of Communications established a South African National Preparatory Working Group for World Radiocommunication Conference, 2011.
